Canada Churches Conference Highlights

New Song Church is in partnership with tens of thousands of churches world wide. This past May we got together with some of the churches in Canada we have fellowship with. It was held in Mississauga this year and next year we get to travel to Vancouver Island. We would love to take our entire Kitchener Church to Victoria in May 2010. Road trip anyone?!

Denomination?

There are two questions that we're always asked...

#1 - What denomination is your church?

#2 - How big is your church?

First of all, let's describe what that term "denomination" actually means.

It is used to give definition to a group or class. It's how people easily understand where you fit into the picture. If we were to say, we're...  "Pentecostal" or "Baptist" or "Protestant", you'd know instantly what we stood for or how our church runs. The picture is instantly filled in for you with one simple word.

If I was to answer you by saying we're "nondenominational" what image does that convey in your mind? That term is used to describe a group that doesn't fit into the usual groups.  It's brush is wide. This is then us but it's not all at the same time...

After having grown quite the successful Bible study group back in the early 1900's,  Harry A. Ironside was asked by a lady who had been attending, what denomination was he a part of.  He answered her with this, "I belong to the same denomination as [King] David did. He wrote that he was a companion of all those who fear God and keep His precepts."  That's a wonderful group to be a part of!

Doesn't that describe all of those churches in all of those denominations?!  Aren't we all revering and worshipping God and putting our trust in Him (Ps. 40:3)?!  Why do we have to divide lines?  Why do people argue whose denomination is right and whose is wrong?  The Bible says that there is only one way to Heaven - that's through Jesus - not your denomination.

We belong to the same family!  One Spirit, one Christ, one God, one body, one spirit, one hope, one death, one way to heaven.

We will be living with each other for eternity; we might as well learn to get along right now, down here on earth.  We need to stand together and march in step with each other.  Time is short and the message is getting garbled.  Let's not be part of the problem -- let's be part of the solution! Let's tighten the belt of peace around the body of Christ together.

If that is as clear as mud...

Dave, pastor of New Song Church, is licensed through CFCM (Canadian Fellowship of Churches and Ministers) but it's our relationship with NCMI (New Covenant Ministries International) that helps New Song flourish.  It is this fellowship where iron can truly sharpen iron.

As to the question about what size our church is?

We usually answer it this way, what's more important... huge numbers or huge maturity?  It's not a cop-out or excuse because our church is around 100 people.  We'd rather be an inch wide but a mile deep any day.  In the last year God has been challenging us, "Where are you going to put them and how are you going to disciple them?" if we can't get that right, what business do we have in growing.  There are things God wants to get in order and then He'll add to the church.

Does that answer those questions for you?

If not, come by the church in Kitchener to check us out.  We own a wonderful building at 485 Charles Street E, across from KW Counselling Services and Tim Hortons.  Our Sunday service begins at 10am.  We have children's Church which is dismissed after our lively time of worship. Stick around after the service for a coffee and ask all the questions you want.

Other NCMI Relating Churches...

There are literally tens of thousands of churches from around the world that relate to New Covenant Ministries International (NCMI). We've had the privilege of relating to this team for nearly 7 years now (God brought us to them for the first time in 2001) and it has been an incredible blessing on all levels and in all areas of our lives.

If you're ever traveling around and in these particular cities... check them out... stop by for a visit and let them know how great it is to be part of such a great big and wonderful family!
